New Jersey's Foreclosure Mediation Program

The mortgage foreclosure crisis in New Jersey has taken a devastating toll on homeowners, their families, their neighborhoods and communities, which is why government leaders report that our state is committed to doing everything it can to provide New Jersey homeowners with the tools to fight back.

That's why New Jersey has created a Foreclosure Mediation Program. It's a statewide mortgage foreclosure mediation program with one goal in mind: helping thousands of New Jersey homeowners facing foreclosure.

The foreclosure mediation program gives eligible homeowners access to court-trained mediators who may help homeowners in foreclosure remain in their homes.

The parties will appear before a neutral court-appointed mediator. The mediator will assist the lender and borrower in trying to reach a voluntary and mutual agreement to resolve the loan delinquency. This process often cuts through the red tape and bureaucracy that borrowers get from the mortgage company when they try to work directly with the lender's loss mitigation department.
